Hello all, a few of us have the HP DV8t-1100 (VF836AV) and would like to get a copy of a good DSDT and moded BIOS that would allow the Dell 1510 Wi-Fi card to work.

If someone who has these could post them here, it would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you

Mammoth

Hi Mammoth, I'll try to get at least my modded BIOS uploaded someplace on the weekend. I'm still hacking on my DSDT, but I'll see if I can get that cleaned up as well.

You won't need the DSDT to install SL, just fix a few things. Keep in mind that your hardware might be different as my DV8 is a dv8t-1093ca (VLU893UA) so you might have to customize the DSDT to suit.

Great! Thanks very much. I will compare our two models. I am hoping our BIOS' are compatible!

Ok, good. So far looks like they are the same! HP just released a new BIOS version, F.25. Here is the problem it addresses:

Fix/Enhancement: Fixes an intermittent issue where the system does not start up (boot) when running a Microsoft Windows Operating System.

Thanks for the update, I'll grab that and do the same whitelist hack sometime in the next week or so...

That BIOS version doesn't show up on my model's support page so you would be wise to have a proper rescue media ready to go if you decide to flash the BIOS I uploaded...

@gsly

I have extracted the files from one of HP's BIOS updates, and can get the flash to run / update, and flash is successful and the machine works fine, but it does not recognize my WiFi card as being valid. I did get it off of eBay, and it was listed as the Dell, but I'm thinking either maybe it's not or is it possible the BIOS you uploaded isn't your modified one but the HP stock BIOS. The date on both BIOS .fd files are the same.

The one I got from eBay which was SUPPOSED to be a Dell 1510 is a Broadcom BCM94322HM8L. When I boot, I get a nasty message that says the card isn't supported and I must remove it.

OK, just did another test. With your modified BIOS installed, I put my Centrino Advanced-N 6200 WiFi card back in and it boots up and works fine under Windows 7; however, that's the one you have listed as being removed. So I realize I may be wrong, but it looks like maybe this isn't your modified BIOS.

A couple of notes: Our BIOS IDs are the same "7001", so they are 100% compatible with each other.

Also, I discovered the lower mini-PCI slot (the one between the 2 hard drives bays) is completely functional and does NOT go through the white list! I installed a Broadcom BCM94321MC (an actual "Apple" stamped card from a MacBook) and it worked 100% in OS X AND Windows 7! The WiFi card I got off of eBay came with a new WiFi antenna cable set, so with them connected and dangling out the bottom, perfectly working.

Thanks
