I will ask a help. My main volume is damaged

And can't be repaired neither fsck, nor DiskUtility, nor TechToolsPro5.0.6.
Although I can work.

How can I repair the volume without reformat it?

What fsck-options did you try?
Apart from that, Disk Warrior should be able to fix that issue but it's some commercial tool afaik.

By default at single-user mode
/sbin/fsck -fy

Thank you for the Disk Warrior! I forgot it.

Thank you, but still the same
I type
/sbin/fsck_hfs -rf /dev/rdisk0s3 in single-user mode
it repairs something but not extended attributes. Seems DiskWarrior is a last hope.

good luck, diskwarrior has worked well for me in the past, and as a desperate measure, sometimes multiple passes of repair disk in disk util will achieve something (providing there's enough of the journal left)

No, don't do it.
The boot block is Chameleon. So I install boot1h again and restart.

For many years, DiskWarrior has been the premier Macintosh utility to repair disk drive directory structures and the files in them. If Disk Utility cannot repair your drive, then DiskWarrior can probably do the job.

Unfortunately, on a Hackint0sh, DiskWarrior sees the MBR partition scheme as something that needs to be repaired. Allowing DiskWarrior to make this repair would render the Hackint0sh unbootable. In addition, DiskWarrior has no feature to allow the user to select which repairs he wishes to make. The user can choose to make all repairs or no repairs.

This patch to DiskWarrior only prevents it from repairing the MBR partition scheme used on a Hackint0sh.

According to Alsoft, DiskWarrior 4 has some inherent restrictions:

� It cannot repair the booted volume. The same restriction as Disk Utility.
� It cannot repair the volume on which the running DiskWarrior application is located.

Versions 4.0(40) and 4.0(41) have a restriction with Leopard (version 4.1(42) is OK with Leopard)

� Alsoft highly recommends that DiskWarrior should not be run from a booted Leopard volume to make repairs. DiskWarrior can repair Leopard volumes.

Therefore, DiskWarrior should be run from a separate booted volume which is not the target for the repair. For versions 4.0(40) and 4.0(41), this should be a Tiger volume, not a Leopard volume.

If the patcher is ever updated, links to the new version will be posted here. Comments should be posted in this thread. Bugs may be sent in a PM to MrUnknown.

The patcher comes with no warranties. Use it at your own risk.

The patch is known to work on DiskWarrior 4 -- v4.0(40), v4.0(41) and v4.1(42). It may or may not work for newer versions.


Update: new version (1.02) of patcher can handle DiskWarrior 4 -- v4.0(40), v4.0(41) and v4.1(v42).

It is dangerous to use patched application without any warranty to expensive info but sometimes it is a last chance. Thanks!

Next thought. Is it possible to make the same patch to open-source fsck_hfs?

Great you solved the problem, so I'm late with my 2 cents:

Lost 2 disks at once, tried every software around.
The only one able to recover the partition map was testdisk from cgsecurity.
Free (donationware) and easy (so I', m not earning money making free ads).

Maybe something else will ine day need this info.

I returning to the same problem.
Niether fsck nor DiskUtil nor TechToolPro 5 nor DiskWarrior 4.2 can repair my volume. ALTHOUGH THE SYSTEM WORKS!

Volume size = 120Gb, free space 11Gb. I can't save 100Gb to other place.
DiskWarrior works slow and slower. 2 hours passed without results.
Don't know what to do else.

PS. After second attempt with TechToolsPro5.0.6 I am successfully corrected my volume. ohmy.gif
Different problems - different tools.
