Hi!
My laptop:
N5110 with i7-2670QM - 6GB RAM - Intel HD 3000 and Nvidia 525m
Please check my DSDT, where I managed to disable the Nvidia card.
This is a modification intel+atheros DSDT, from this page:
Mac Os X 10.7 Lion на Dell Inspiron N5110 It modified the sections responsible for the graphics, for those who are in DSDT DoiX.
Cooler and longer operation on battery in Lion on our N5110.
Please reply if it works.
Sorry for my bad English.

Number of downloads: 185Hey man! Great work! Thank you very much!!! I definitely notice an improvement over what I had before. I ran a comparison between the patched DSDT I had with yours (I saved a .dsl version using DSDT Editor and compared the 2 dsl files in Word in Windows) and I noticed a great lot of code added to the video section. Did you do that yourself? Very impressive!
What I've noticed so for is that:
- the remaining battery life is longer than I had before (I had about 35 min at 35% and now it is 55 min at 35%) but I'll have to see at full charge. In Windows 7 I get about 90 minutes on 35% - do you think it would be possible to make further mods to get the same as in Windows 7?
- the system lets the CPU to run a few degrees hotter now before the fan gets faster (in Windows 7 it is at the lowest speed until all cores exceed 55 C and in Lion (on my machine) it is a few degrees lower - around 53 C) which is a nice noise improvement - I am wondering if there are some parameters in DSDT that could be adjusted to get it to match the fan operation in Windows 7.
- the bottom of the laptop is cooler than before.
I'll test some more and report back.
Thanks again! I'll post more later today.

My temps are a bit lower (1-2 C) than those I get on Windows 7. But the fan spins more in Lion and that could explain this. How much longer did your battery life get after you applied this fix to turn off NVidia? I didn't notice a significant improvement but maybe the battery meter is not accurate? Are you using a native patched kext or VoodooBattery ?

i think that the threshold of fan speed on mac is low as it begins to work nearly on rang 50
but on windows is higher so
the fan work more on mac so more power consumaton than windows
this is my thoughts
does anyone notice notice that notebook restart from mac
it looks like shutdowned and then try to open then restart and open again ??!!
need confirmation for that

Not tested on the battery before using this patch. On the Windows battery shows 1 hour more work than the Mac. I am a native patched kext.

I confirm I have this problem too.
I think to use the methods _PS3, _OFF of our laptop, although it will be hard to do. This can solve our problems?
Still a lot of work ahead of us to make everything work properly. Tomorrow I will go back to work after the holiday, and again little time to deal with the Hackintosh.

Number of downloads: 182FANTASTIC! I got 4:19 remaining battery life. The temps and fan is just like in Windows 7. The restart works great! UNBELIEVABLE!!! You are a genius !!!

And stop saying sorry for your English - it is good enough - I understand everything you write and I am sure everyone else does too!
On another issue: I've noticed that after returning from sleep the screen brightness is higher than it was when I put my laptop to sleep but the brightness slider position did not change - now if I have to reduce brightness I have a very short length of the scale remaining - to the left of the "ball" (the slider). If I move it to the right the screen is getting abnormally bright (I don't even dare going to 100% brightness as the screen is becoming "flashlight-white". Are you getting the same?

I also notice the problem, I try to work on it at your leisure.
ATTENTION
Do not use my DSDT, the N5110 without the nvidia card. Method PINI() try to disable the card that does not - it can cause problems.

maropr / Thrashaxe,
I am trying to do the same to my Sony VPCSE with an ATI graphics card. Here is my working dsdt.aml and the SSDT file with the ON OFF methods. Can I follow the steps outline by Thrashaxe to get a good DSDT or is there some other magic from maropr that I need?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much,
wadalada

Number of downloads: 8You can try that of course but at your own risk, I did not actually create anything on my own in my post - I simply tried to compile all the discussion that occurred prior to my first post on this topic and tried to put that in the right order. I have not had a chance to experiment with that myself since maropr joined the topic and provided his great solution. You may use MS-Word to compare the original DSDT for n5110 and the latest version from maropr to see what changes were made and then see if you can do the same on your DSDT. That might be quite difficult if you're not experienced in this area. You may also try and compare the original dsdt for n5110 and your model to see how different the DSDTs are, this might give you some info as well. I cannot unfortunately explain how the mods maropr made are working, not knowledgeable enough to do that

Thrashaxe & maropr,
I have succeeded in turning off my other graphics card by observing your DSDT changes.
Thanks for all your help,

THX mate, i saw your dsdt, and it is different from mine, there are some "operationRegion" in the ssdt but dsdt, your dsdt contains OperationRegion which relate the _ON or _OF method, so i try to copy this entry to dsdt and compile, i can't get compile succeed, like "parse error"
Here are the operationRegions: (PS: i try to use newer version iasl tool, failed too.)
CODE
OperationRegion (PCIS, SystemMemory, \EBAS (0xF0), Field (PCIS, DWordAcc, Lock, Preserve)
{
DVID, 16,
Offset (0x2C),
SVID, 16,
SDID, 16,
Offset (0x4C),
WVID, 16,
WDID, 16
})
OperationRegion (GPIO, SystemIO, \GBAS (0x60), Field (GPIO, ByteAcc, Lock, Preserve)
{
Offset (0x0C),
LVL0, 32,
Offset (0x38),
LVL1, 32,
Offset (0x48),
LVL2, 32
})
OperationRegion (PCAP, PCI_Config, \EECP (0x14), Field (PCAP, DWordAcc, NoLock, Preserve)
{
Offset (0x10),
LCTL, 16
})
Windows 7 SP1+ Snow leopard 10.6.8
CPU : T2390 Ram : 2G=2*1G Graphics : Intel X3100 Ethernet: BCM5906 Wireless: BCM4312 Audio Card: ALC861-VD (Fully working)

@tmacyunn1, i believe i've posted what i did to extract the info i needed to alter the DSDT. Considering our DSDT uses the available Optimus code in the bios to disable it... you will need to find the equivalent AMD one and use it.
