Just get the newest one and see what happens, it's not a big deal.
Old versions were very buggy and provided support for less hardware.

Any way to resolve my issue which I posted previously? Sorry for double posting, I looked everywhere and can't find a solution.

I am not sure why Slice's voodooHDA kext not working for me (well partially working). Do I have to make any changes to do it? Like edit something in the info.plist?

Hi, I think I need some help from a guru.
I usually try to not bother anyone and solve my problem just reading the forum but this time I have a strange problem.
I installed time ago Snow Leopard on a Toshiba Satellite A100, and I had all my extensions backed up. Unfortunately I had to change hard disk and reinstall everything. Now I'm in a strange situation: everything is working but audio. I'm using the same extensions as before (and I tried to change various versions of VoodooHDA) but with no luck.
I also tried to modify the info.plist of VoodooHDA using my getdump.txt but I can't get sound.
Is there someone who can tell me how to change my info.plist correctly?

Update:

Azimutz & Cynargo,Thanks thus far, for pointing me in the correct direction.I still need a bit of guidance however.

Thus far, I have audio coming from my headphone & external speakers. Not the best, but I can live with it. When I plug a Mic into the pink Mic jack, I hear myself coming through the external speakers. On play back my audio is very very soft. (This is using Skype testing service).

I do not get KP anymore when I select sound in "System Preferences". VoodooHDA.prefpane, loading fine now.I see Speaker (CD): Microphone (CD) & Microphone (Pink Rear). I made adjustment the best I could, but, with the Mic plugged in, Audio is still very soft or distorted.

I have installed 0.2.260; 0.2.261 and both works the same for me. With 0.2.262, I get KP on boot up.

I have attached, my latest dump with VoodooHDA 0.2.260 installed, and loaded. I would much appreciate the snippet to place in my "Info.Plist", in order to get my internal & external Mic working, with the data from the dump. If it is at all possible, would like very much if I can get my iPod headphone Mic working, as this is what I would mainly use.

can't help you with tweaking the info.plist.. i don't know enough for my self tongue.gif I'm not even using VoodooHDA atm, but usually i use 2.5.6 or 2.6.1.

You may still need to tweak stuff but, it doesn't have the mic crosstalk problems that 2.6.x introduced for some.
In case you wonder what the "sa" on the name of the archive means, it's a ref to the dev's nicks.

Azimutz, Thanks for the file, 0.2.56 loaded fine, In my opinion I am hearing Audio much better than 0.2.60 & 0.2.61, also, less audio coming from through the speakers when talking using the Mic, and better control I feel also with VoodooHDA.Prefpane.

But again, little or no audio, being heard when using internal Mic, or the Mic via my iPod Headphones. Same as well for the External Mic.

As you said, the kext needs some tweaking, but I do not know what values to place into the "Info Plist" When I play around with the "Info Plist" the VoodooHDA.kext does not load. Wish I can get this solved, so I can get a good night rest. cool.gif

It would be nice to have a "complete" tutorial, without the need to jump to 3 different tutorials just to know what values enter into info.plist! biggrin.gif
In my case, VoodooHDA keeps disabling Speaker because in the dump appears to be without connections… I think I should only force enable Speaker to be able to hear audio but maybe I am too n00b to do...

wish i could help more sad.gif but my knowledge is very limited on this subject. I only need audio out for now so, i've been leaving this stuff for last. Read the guides a lot of times but, still need to learn another stuff to deal with this.
And yes, there should be a proper guide for this, despite the good efforts already done.

Thank you for the great work on VoodooHDA!
I have a MSI GX620 with NVIDIA 9600M and thanks to
VoodooHDA and NVEnabler I get screen mirroring and audio through the HDMI port - fantastic.
The default VHDA correctly detects all connections but incorrectly sets a SPDIF based on the
codec dump and the digital output tries to attach here instead of HDMI.
When I modify the Info.plist to deactivate SPDIF, HDMI correctly picks up digital sound out.

Azimutz, Decided to ditch Leopard 10.5.8, and install Snow Leopard 10.6.4 instead, audio works, with VoodooHDA 0.2.53, a little scratchy, but better than nothing at all. I tried 0.2.56, and it also works. Even my internal WiFi adapter works, was using a dongle before. Will read some more and see if I can understand better how to clear up the inbound audio. Thanks a mil.

I've beem trying to get sound on SL 10.6.2 on a laptop with an Intel 82801FB ICH6 AC97 Audio controller. I used the voodoohda 2.5.3 kext, which loads without error, but doesn't do anything that I can detect.

Should this work?

No.
HDA is not AC97
You need other driver. But there is a 32-bit solution for Leo. I didn't ever make the driver for Snow 64. May be someone else?

hi

running gigabyte 965p-s3 v3.3 F14A in 10.6.4 with ati5770. got everything else to work apart from sound.

only Headphones (green front) is working in sound.
sound control is also showing Digital-out (HDMI), SPDIF-out (Orange Rear) but they dont work.

i'm having trouble finding the correct deviceid to put into com.apple.boot.plist

getdump isnt showing me a deviceid

Found a device of class VoodooHDADevice: IOService:/AppleACPIPlatformExpert/PCI0@0/AppleACPIPCI/AZAL@1B/VoodooHDADevice

my dump file is attached

any help would be great, thanks.

I just made some updates to version 262 of VoodooHDA which should help fix some volume control issues that people have been having.

1. If you currently can't change the volume at all, try this kext...
Edit VoodooHDA.kext/Contents/Info.plist and find the section:

CODE
<key>VoodooHDAEnableVolumeChangeFix</key>
<false/>


Change false to true, set permissions, rebuild your kext cache and reboot.

I don't take credit for this fix - it was a fix that I found in forums somewhere (I'll edit/credit when I find the post again). All I did was make it a optional (disabled by default).

As a side note, I originally needed this fix to get my volume control working, but once I fixed my pin configs, this was no longer needed. So if you are having this issue, there's a good chance that you just need to patch your pin configs.

2. If you have volume control, but only seem to be able to use half the range (anything below 50% = silent, and changes in volume are harsh)...
Edit VoodooHDA.kext/Contents/Info.plist and find the section:

<key>VoodooHDAEnableHalfVolumeFix</key>
<false/>


Change false to true, set permissions, rebuild your kext cache and reboot.

Let me know how this works out for others. I've only been able to test it on my system.

hi all,

due to all the help on these forums, and all the (hard to follow) tutorials, i've been able to get my vostro completely sussed out.


it's a vostro 1500 with stac9205

the following works fine

built in mic
external mic

headphones (auto switching is fine)
speakers

spdif digital output (with dell adapter)


if anyone wants a copy of my kext/plist, give me a shout.

Hi slice!


is it possible to have encoded ac3 passthrough over spdif with voodoo?

i had passthrough with applehda in leopard. output showed "Built-in Digital Output" and "Built-in Digital Output (encoded)"


i have digital output working, and have renamed it as above (just incase),, but still no sign of encoded passthrough sad.gif


any help is much appreciated!!!
