What is the purpose of patching a DSDT?

I have been trying (and failing) to patch my DSDT as of late, and just realized that I don't know why I am doing it.

So, what is the purpose? I.e. what kind of fixes can be gained from successfully patching it?

Sure, it is necessary. But you can alternatively use MSDOS and be happy. Read the forum.
