My specs are - intel dg43nb motherboard, ich10 sata, nvidia 8600gs, intel 82567v ethernet lan controller, alc888vc audio codec

I had a fully working leopard 10.5.8 installation usng ipc 10.5.6.. i had to use the patched usb drivers and usb mount fix to get my usb working..

i installed snow leopard 10.6 using the usb installation method with chameleon rc3.. able to boot into both 32 and 64 bit modes.. usb wireless keyboard and mouse working but my thumb drives are not mounting.. not able to use my wireless usb adapter(netgear wg111v3)also (was working in leopard)..
what might i be doing wrong? as there a patched iousbfamily for snow leopard?

Make sure that your kernel version (uname -a in the terminal) matches your System.kext version (right click the System.kext, click "get info", in the "General" section, just above the label colours). They should both be 10.0.0 for Snow.

If they do indeed match, plug in your USB device, open a terminal and type:

CODE
sudo kextload -t /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext

This will load the USB Mass Storage device driver. That driver not loading automatically is usually the problem.

thank you:) i'll try that and let you know what happens..

My kernel version does match my system.kext version.. i tried the code you mentioned but it gives me an error message.. and my thumb drive still wont mount.. i've attached a snapshot of my terminal output..Click to view attachment it didn't work without the -t also..

Is there anything else i can try? i previously booted from usb and thought that might be the problem and now i'm booting from the snow partition..

I fixed the "GetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35" by following[url="http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,83.0.html"]

I used Lingon to run a daemon at startup to load IOUSBMassStorage using
CODE
kextload -b com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass

This is waht i get when i run kextstat | grep "USB"

IOUSBmassstorage is loaded at startup but my thumb drive is still not mounting.. tried booting with thumb drive plugged in and without it but it still wont detect it...

Any other suggestions?

Got it fixed!! Disabled LegacyUSB in my BIOS(USB Configuration).. And my slow Snow leopard boot time was fixed too by setting BIOS sata mode to AHCI from IDE.. only problem now is that during boot I'm not able to use my keyboard to select boot options/OS..

What is your hardware.
Im having the same problem. But the funny thing is that the USB Drive will start working if I unplug it from my left USB and put it into the right USB.

In fact neither my mouse or USB work on the left side ports. But If I use the Right side ports the same thing works.
this may have nothing to do with USB and Mas storeage and more to do with power management and USB ports. Just an idea.
