Hi all,
I have almost managed to successfully install OS X Snow Leopard on some PC parts I purchased specifically for this purpose. My hardware setup looks as follows:
- Asus P5Q Turbo Motherboard (ICH10 + Intel P45)
- Intel Q9400 CPU
- 4x 2gb Kingston DDR2-1066 memory chips
- Asus EN9400GT Graphics
- 2x 500gb attached to the Drive Xpert SATA ports to run in RAID0 (This will be my boot drive)
- 4x 1tb attached to the ICH10 RAID controller (My goal was to have these run in RAID5, but I found out now it is impossible)
This will be the third successful hackintosh I've built.
The method I used was mostly through trial and error. I used the latest Chameleon (2.0 RC3 I think) along with PC EFI (10.5) and then found a guide on Insanely Mac that creates the /Extra/ folder on the install drive with a couple of files in it (Boot.plist, Extensions.mkext, etc.).
I am nearing success, but I am asking for your help to get me there.
- The biggest issue I'm experiencing is the video card drivers:
I have tried the nvenabler posted in the development section of the 10.5.x forum. This just caused my boot to end up with a huge 'no entry' sign and something about rebooting being the only option. This can be fixed by booting into the installer again and removing the kext that has been installed.
I don't quite understand all the posts that mention stuff about 'device id' and neither do I understand how to successfully edit the DSDT :/ If anyone could give me different kexts to try out I would appreciate that. Alternatively, point me to a place where I can learn to edit the DSDT successfully and what I will need to edit to fix my problem.
- The second smaller issue i'm getting is with the Chameleon bootloader. I edited the plist file and inserted a new key called 'Default Partition' with a string value of 'hd(4,3)'. This should then by default load the operating system located at disk4s3. However, it is still loading the installer located at disk4s2 by default. Any idea how to fix this?
Once I deal with these two problems I will sort out the smaller issues I'm having (RAID etc.), but I'll really appreciate *any* help with the graphics driver. The reason being I need to get FCP running and it requires the 128mb VRAM, dual-view output and QE.
