So I presently have a reliable Hackintosh operating 10.5.2 install on my Dell PowerEdge SC1430 (basics are 2x quad-core Xeon E5310's, 4GB DDR2, PCI nVidia 5600FX) with the only caveats being the lack of power management, kernel panics if I enable more than 3GB of RAM, and kernel panic if I enable AirPort.

I also have a 17" MacbookPro (2.8, 8GB) running Snow Leopard. Using it made me want a desktop machine running Snow Leopard (or at least a newer version of Leopard than 10.5.2) and I was on the verge of selling off my PowerEdge until I ran across various tutorials which made it sound much easier than when I did my Kalyway setup.

Nevertheless, I followed the Lifehacker tutorial crossing my fingers that this would be pretty straightforward since I was able to get Leopard running fairly easily.

No such luck -- on bootup I have a kernel panic on com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily and com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily which some Google searching reveals to be fairly common. Unfortunately, since it's a Dell PowerEdge, I have a very limited BIOS screen to poke around with.

I've downloaded the DSDT patcher but am not really sure what I'm supposed to be patching or if that's even the right course of action. Can anyone point me in a direction which may help?

Thanks in advance.

I am also in the same boat .... I run Leo 10.5.8 with all latest patches on Dell PowerEdge SC1430 with XEON processors ..... We do not have AHCI option in the BIOS .... and every time I start the machine with existing Leopard install for Snow Leopard, I get the same CPU kernel Panic on the kexts mentioned above ....

Nobody is there to help us ??

I can provide more information .. I am sure somebody with low level knowledge can fix this and make many like me happy

Thanks

Yeah I have still not found a solution to this. Still running 10.5.2 on my side. Seems like the Dell PowerEdge is not a very popular platform for this.

How did you get the nvidia FX5600 graphics card to work?!
I recently installed SnowLeopard on my Dell Precision 490 for the first time,
but couldn`t find a kext for the FX5600...
