after an year spent in searching and documentation reading, I'm still not able to find a valid solution to get QE/CI working on my internal lcd.
The video card is the nVidia GeForce 8400GTm, and the laptop is (dish!!) a Sony VAIO (NR21S/S model). I've read about the SNC controller and the possibility to port the SNC linux driver. Unfortunately, I've seen many fake projects, some one even in google's code. BTW, I've also have to say that I'm still not having the backlight control working neither in Ubuntu (xbacklight and others don't work on lastest vaio series
Sadly, I don't have either support for Windows XP, 'cause the drivers for nVidia+Sony are provided directly from Sony (even if they're producted by nVidia
After I've told this, I can finally start with my questions:
- What is the architecture level of SNC controller? Software, hardware, firmware?
- Replacing some parts (monitor, cable, inverter) or the whole screen, could it be a working solution?
I'd like to doing some test, but I've to wait for my two-year warranty and I don't have any fear on disassembling laptop or pc. I've anyway to replace some parts of my laptop (ram and wifi card) but purchasing a new display is a little bit more expensive and I'd like to have more knowledges about this kind of problem before going on.
The porting of SNC driver from Linux could be only a waste of time, because sony vaio's laptop are not perfectly supported (for the display)...e.g. in Ubuntu 8.04 I've sometimes the same black screen problem.

Maurizio
